BARMM info officers undergo 3-day conflict sensitivity, peace promotion comms workshop with OPAPRU, BIO

COTABATO CITY – Information Officers from the different ministries of the Bangsamoro Government and some members of Civil Society Organizations underwent a three-day communications workshop on Conflict Sensitivity and Peace Promotion (CSPP).

Held in this city from March 15-17, the workshop aimed to help the info officers deepen their understanding on their roles as government communicators in promoting the culture of peace and conflict sensitivity.

Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO) organized the activity in partnership with the Office of the Presidential adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU).

Resource persons from OPAPRU provided lectures on understanding conflict, peace and violence; peace journalism; conflict-sensitivity journalism; gender, women, peace and security; and CSPP communications, among others.

In his video message, OPAPRU Acting Secretary Isidro Purisima said that the activity is a testament of a shared commitment between the national and the Bangsamoro Governments.

Through the promotion of the CSPP principles in government communication, Purisima said, “Kumpiyansa kaming malayo ang mararating ng ating pagtutulungan para itaguyod ang kapayapaan sa ating bansa.”

According to OPAPRU, CSPP communications can be defined as a discipline in purposive communication that is characterized by the heavy use of conflict analysis to inform how stories should be approached to avoid conflict and violence escalation, and advance peace.

BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim thanked OPAPRU for its continuing support to the regional government. He said that the Bangsamoro Government is committed to ensure that the information centers of its institutions are equipped in the matters of CSPP communication.

“May this workshop inspire all of you to continue to be a leading example of the best and most efficient delivery of government service towards our shared goal of an informed and progressive Bangsamoro,” Ebrahim told the info officers in a video message.

During the last day of the activity, OPAPRU Communications and Public Affairs Services (CPAS) Director Darwin Wally Wee led the participants’ CSPP oath for government coomunicators. (Myrna Tepadan/BIO)
