BARMM inaugurates digital center to foster strong LGU partnership, boost local economy

ILIGAN CITY—Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), officially inaugurated Wednesday, May 31 a digital center aimed at strengthening the relationship between LGUs and the regional government and boosting the local economy thru e-governance.

The launch ceremony of the Digital Bangsamoro Center took place at the municipal hall of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, and was attended by Vice Governor Mohammad Khalid Adiong, UNDP Resident Representative Dr. Selva Ramachandran, and Mayor Ali Sumandar.

According to Fausiah Abdula, the Operations and Management Director of MILG, the Piagapo Data Center will serve as a hub for accessing information from the regional government through the MILG.

The Bangsamoro community has now easier access to information and services, including streamlined digital processes for obtaining business permits and Civil Registration documents.

“Itong Piagapo Data Center kung saan lahat ng information nanggaling sa regional government thru the MILG ay maaari nilang ma-access anytime. For example, may mga issues gusto nila i-raise sa region and vice versa ay madali na lang po ang tapunan ng information,” Abdula said.

“Pangalawa, gusto rin natin i-showcase ang natatanging produkto ng bawat LGU, so, nandito ang kanilang products like cassava crackers, kape at iba pang mga produkto galing sa kanila,” she added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ali Sumandar expressed his gratitude to the Bangsamoro Government and UNDP, saying, “we are very much happy kasi kami ang pinaka-unang nabigyan ng LeAPS program which is initially magbibigay tayo ng dalawang services sa ating mga constituents like birth certificates and business permits.”

The next launching event is scheduled to take place in the municipality of Butig in the same province in June of this year.

The Localizing e-Governance for Accelerated Provision of Services (LeAPS) program, supported by UNDP, has been implemented since 2020 in the region.

It aims to localize e-Governance for the accelerated provision of services, with the goal of improving services for the constituents of Bangsamoro. (Majid Nur/BIO)
