BARMM exec announces P20-million housing in Lanao del Sur for affected Marawi residents 70 percent complete

BARMM Region – A top-ranking official in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has announced Wednesday (August 4) that a housing project intended for Marawi affected residents is now nearing completion.

The housing project is located in Barangay Bo-ot in Wao, Lanao del Sur. Since the war erupted in Marawi many years ago between government forces and the ISIS-led local terrorists headed by the Maute Brothers, displaced families went to their relatives in Wao municipality and seek refuge.

Abdullah Cusain, program manager of the Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (KAPYANAN) said the housing project will be turned over soon to the benefiaries to enjoy their new dwelling place. The beneficiaries are officially surveyed as among the poorest of the poor victims of the war-torn Marawi City.

“The housing project is intended for internally displaced persons (IDPs) during the 2017 siege in Marawi City who sought refuge in Barangay Bo-ot after their houses were destroyed,” Cusain, who is also BARMM’s assistant senior minister, said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency here.

The BARMM official said he visited the site and they are all almost ready for occupancy and he plans to turn them over to the rightful owners maybe end of this month.

“I visited the project area on Tuesday and work has been ongoing as scheduled,” he added. “Complete with solar power and water components, each unit costs PHP406,254.”

Cusain said during an interview that the houses were part of the 1,000 housing units intended for Lanao del Sur under the office of Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim, the BARMM chief minister.

It was learned that the budget was appropriated from the 2019 total budget of the region. For fiscal year 2020, additional 900 units will be constructed for the province, and another 1000 units for 2021, Cusain said.

Aside from the housing units, the beneficiaries was also provided with food packs and clean drinking water good for two months.

In July, this year, KAPYANAN also distributed food packs and safe, potable drinking water for another 50 core shelters in Barangay Dimapatoy in Bubong town, also in Lanal del Sur province. – PNA
