CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Residents in Barangay Carmen lined up the streets last Saturday to say farewell to the late Roland Sherwin “Tawee” Uy as he was brought to the Oro Gardens to be buried.
Hundreds of residents, most of them wearing white shirts and some carrying placards, shouted “justice for Tawee” to the funeral car carrying Uy’s remains and the convoy of vehicles that followed it.
Tawee, former Carmen barangay kagawad, was the eldest son of mayoral candidate and Rep. Rolando “Klarex” Uy and Carmen barangay chair Lorna Uy.
Tawee’s brother, incumbent Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy, said the reward money has gone up to P12.3 million as of Saturday, Nov. 20.
The vice mayor said P2 million came from the city government through Mayor Oscar Moreno, while the Uy family pledged P2 million.
The rest of the amount came from concerned citizens and businessmen who wanted the perpetrators to be found and brought to justice.
“Some gave P20,000, some P50,000, while other pledged P100,000 and P500,000,” he said
The city official has assured that the amount will only be given to informants once the suspects are identified, prosecuted and convicted.
“We were affected by my brother’s death. But, still, we are thankful to those who extended their help to the Uy family,” the vice mayor told reporters during the interment of this brother at a memorial park Saturday morning
