Balingoan vice mayoralty candidate tagged in the slaying of Maria Reyna-XU Hospital medical director

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A vice-mayoralty candidate is now the subject of a manhunt operation after he was tagged by police authorities as among the prime suspects in the killing of a hospital director.

Dr Raul Winston Andutan, 62, was ambushed by hired hitmen while driving his SUV in Barangay Nazareth, this city. Despite bullet wounds that hit his vital parts, he still managed to drive his vehicle but eventually he rammed it in front of a laundry shop.

Dr Andutan was the medical director of Maria Reyna-Xavier University Hospital (MRXUH) during the time of the ambush that caused his untimely demise.

City Police Director Col Aaron Mandia said that aside from the three arrested assassins who are now in jail, the court also ordered to arrest a vice mayoralty candidate Richard Gepte of Balingoan town and the middleman Reynaldo Tortusa also of Balingoan.

Tortusa eluded arrest when Cagayan de Oro City police operatives swooped down in Balingoan to arrest all of them.

Both Tortusa and Gepte are now at large, Col Mandia told Bombo Radyo in an interview.

Mandia said the arrest of Gepte and Tortusa is very vital in the resolution of the case, to know the motive of the killing, and who masterminded it.

Reward money

Earlier, one of the arrested suspects who were all from Bukidnon Province, confessed that the middleman, Reynaldo Tortusa, contacted them one by one in Bukidnon and told them that a bounty of P150,000 would be rewarded to them if they can assassinate a certain target in Cagayan de Oro. It was not known to the suspects that the target was a prominent figure in the city.

The suspects – Marjun Abayon Cabug, 39, of Don Carlos; Jomar Pacilan Adlao, 30, of Maramag town; and Joel Arcilla Nacua, 37, of Valencia City – travelled to this city and accepted the project. Tortusa told them that there would be four of them who will share the P150,000 after the target is confirmed dead. (JCE)
