CAGAYAN de Oro City–Former Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo “Ardot” Parojinog, who was flown in from Manila to Ozamiz City on Thursday to attend a scheduled hearing this morning, was found dead in his detention cell, the police regional command confirmed this morning.
Regional Police Director Rolando Anduyan in Region 10 ordered a probe into Parojinog’s death who was to determine the cause of his sudden death and asked for a medical examination, including a “swab test” of Parojinog’s body.
“Our jail authorities found Parojinog dead inside his cell about 6:00 a.m. Friday during a routine early morning head count of inmates,” Anduyan said in an interview with a look radio reporter here.
“We have no idea what caused his (Parojinog) death, but we would also request a swab test so that we could secure the inmates and the those who was with him on board the passenger aircraft in going to Ozamiz City Thursday,” Anduyan said.
Former Ozamiz City Councilor Parojinog was the brother of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog who was killed together with his wife Susan, provincial board member Octavio Parojinog, Jr. and 13 others in an early morning raid on July 30, 2017 at his residence in Barangay Baybay, Ozamiz city.
The shooting took place when elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) were reportedly serving six search warrants against the Parojinog for allegedly storing illegal firearms.
Councilor Parojinog fled out of the country after the incident the police issued a manhunt against him. He was later arrested in Taiwan on May 2018 and was extradited to the country to face a string of criminal cases.
President Duterte has linked the Parojinogs to illegal drug trade and was listed as among the alleged influential drug lords in the country.
