MDNN INTERNATIONAL – Just an Overseas Filipino Worker in Kuwait was buried after being brutally killed by her employer’s kin, another OFW jumped from the third floor to escape from his ‘bad mannered’ employer.
The victim was identified by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration as Myla Bagbag.
OWWA chief Arnel Ignacio’s office has already created a team to investigate the report that Bagbag’s employer was hurting her.
Ignacio said his team will also identify areas of concern in Kuwait to properly identify which cities in the country have many employers with bad reputations.
“Papadala tayo doon ng isang team na ma aanalisa bakit nga ba ganito ano. Area per area lalagyan natin ng demographics kung alin ba yung mga notorious na lugar. Yun yung gagawin nila. Isa-submit nila rito for further studies,” Ignacio said.
Senator Raffy Tulfo has also renewed his stand to issue deployment ban in Kuwait due to this reported maltreatment of OFWs in Kuwait.
Tulfo said it’s high time also that the Philippine Government should review its bilateral agreement with Kuwait.
Slain OFW Jullebee Ranara
The slain Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Kuwait, Jullebee Cabilis Ranara, was finally laid to her final resting place on at the Golden Haven Memorial Park in Las Piñas.
Ranara was found dead in a desert in Kuwait. She was reportedly killed and burned by the 17-year-old son of her employers.
Ignacio said his office has already extended educational support and scholarship for the victim’s children. It was also learned that other people have also extended their financial support to the family of Ranara.
“We are sad and at the same time, enraged over the death of Jullebee in Kuwait. The government should come up with a concrete action so that justice will be served to Jullebee’s family, and to prevent similar tragedies from happening as well,” said Gina Cedron of KMK.
Both OWWA and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), reports said, will also provide assistance including the processing of the victim’s insurance and death benefits that will be given to the immediate family of Ranara.
Meanwhile, Senator Raffy Tulfo demanded a public apology from the Kuwaiti Government.
The senator also confirmed that the immediate family of Julleebee Ranara did not accept the “blood money” offered by the Kuwaiti Government.
