TACURONG CITY – Another city mayor succumbed to the deadly 2019 corona virus disease (covid-19), reports reaching Mindanao Daily News said.
Tacurong City Mayor Angelo Montilla died at a hospital in General Santos while undergoing treatment and medication last night.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of our beloved mayor, Angelo ‘Roncal’ Ortizo Montilla,” the Tacurong City government announced in its official statement.
City Government Spokesperson Allan Freno confirmed the City Mayor had tested positive of the ‘killer’ virus and he was rushed to the hospital in General Santos City where he died.
Fresno said: “He fought but sadly succumbed to the virus at around 9:30 in the evening of June 6.”
The spokesperson announced that Mayor Montilla’s remains will be cremated today, June 7. It was also learned that before the mayor’s untimely demise, he was regularly reporting to his office despite the risks of the pandemic.
“Mayor Roncal will be remembered as a tireless leader who sacrificed his life in the name of public service,” he added.
The mayor’s brother, Vice Mayor Lino Montilla, will also assume office as the new mayor of the city by virtue of succession. – PNA
