Lt. Col. Jeffrey Balingao, Commanding Officer, 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion said that the NPA’s high-ranking leader, identified as Arnel Bahian, the Deputy Secretary of Sub-Regional Committee 3 (SRC-3) of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC), along with Analyn Mondas, Jaquelyn Caube Egtub, Charilyn C Rebita, Glen F Antigua, members of Platoon 2, SRSDG SAGAY, SRC-3, NCMRC surrendered to the troops of 23IB at its Headquarters at Jamboree Site, P-6, Brgy Alubihid, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.

Moreover, the surrenderers divulged that their decision came in the wake of relentless military operations aimed at rooting out the remaining rebels in the area. Additionally, extreme exhaustion, desire for safety, and the opportunity to reunite with their families have played a pivotal role in their decision.

It can be recalled that in the first two months of this year, a series of focus military offensives were launched by 23IB to hunt down the remnants of SRSDG Sagay, SRC-3, NCMRC. This led to numerous encounters between the troops of 23IB and the said criminal groups which resulted in the death of four (4) CPP-NPA terrorists (CNTs), two apprehensions, and nine surrenders as well as the capture of high-powered firearms and other terrorist materials, summing up to a total of fifteen (15) neutralized CNTs from January 8 to date.

4ID Commander Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II commended the surrenderers for their decision and ascertained that the troops would provide necessary assistance to help them get back on their feet. Further, he emphasized that the troops to aggressively continue to hunt down the remaining NPA criminals to safeguard the people of Agusan del Norte and beyond.

“The end of this criminal group in the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur in Caraga region is near at hand. The continuous neutralization of its members during the recent encounters and the snowball of surrender thereafter is a clear manifestation of this development. While we acknowledge this series of surrenders as a positive step toward peace, we want to make it clear that our troops remain resolute in their mission to eliminate the threat posed by NPA criminals through the continuous conduct of military operations to hunt down its remaining members. Therefore, I enjoined the remaining NPA to surrender peacefully so that we can assist you in rebuilding your life together with your loved one,” the 4ID Commander said.
