Amazon sisters reunite after fighting the gov’t

IMPASUGONG, Bukidnon–Two sisters, who parted ways for over two years to join the futile war against the government, were reunited in a heartbreaking reunion in a military camp here, the military reported Tuesday.

The sister-amazons known only as “Gaya” and “Peme” were both surprised and were crying as they tightly embraced each other when they met each other in a military camp here.

Lt. Camille M. Bumatay, the spokesperson of the army’s 8IB based here, said that the two sisters-amazons served as “medic officers” of two separate units of the outlawed New People’s Army (NPA) in Northern Mindanao.

Bumatay said that “Gaya”, 25, served as a platoon medic of the NPA sub-regional “Sentro De Gravidad” while “Peme”, 28, the platoon medic of the NPA Guerilla Front 89, both under the NPA North Central Mindanao Regional Command.

“Peme” surrendered her M-16       rifle when she yielded in 2018 while “Gaya” who surrendered a week ago due to fatigue.

Bumatay said that “Gaya” cried on seeing her lost sister in a meeting prepared by the military in the camp.

“I don’t want to be separated from my sister anymore,” Gaya said as she condemned the communist insurgents for allegedly destroying their happy family.

“Peme” is a recipient of the government’s assistance while “Gaya” would also be entitled the same under the government’s “Enhanced Community Livelihood Program” (ECLIP), Bumatay said.
