AFP’s new weapon of 155 Howitzers born in live fire exercises

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao – Three days of live fire exercises were conducted on the new weapon of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, 155 Self-Propelled (ATMOS 2000) Howitzers in Brgy. Talisawa, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao del Sur, from November 9-11, 2022.

According to Lt. Col. Chamberlain Esmino, Commander of the 10th Field Artillery Battalion that the said activity is part of the end of the 10FAB Battalion Organizational Training that will oversee the said weapon.

It was learned that eight (8) out of twelve (12) 155mm (ATMOS 2000) Self-Propelled Howitzers were brought here to Mindanao on September 29th of the current year with the main objective of suppressing terrorism and insurgency in this area. of Mindanao.

The leadership of the 6ID ensured that the area where the live fire exercises were held was first notified of the said ‘game changer assets’ of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Colonel Francis Anthony Coronel, the Army Artillery Regiment, Commander thanked Hon. Al Wali Mangudadatu, the mayor of DAS town for welcoming the activity and conducting live fire exercises in DAS town. Several members of the media also witnessed the firing of said weapon.

According to Major General Roy M Galido, the Commander of the 6th Infantry (Army) Division and Joint Task Force Central ATMOS is the largest gun in the Army Arsenal today. “With automatic loading and a digital fire control, it can deliver accurate fires to a range of up to 41 kilometers, something that our army calls ‘game-changer’ assets in support of our military operations in Central and South-Central Mindanao”, insisted Maj. Gen. Galido.
