A group of farmers in Camiguin trained in peanut processing

A peanut processing training was held for members at the Tangaro Young Farmers Association (TYFA) in Catarman, Camiguin last February 22 to 24 this year, as part of the Livelihood Project in the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program in DA-Region 10.

There are 15 female members in the said association who participated in the training.

Together with Greenminds Inc., Camiguin Polytechnic State College taught the participants how to cook, label, pack, and price processed peanut products.

Aiming at the gathering, the members will learn how to process peanuts into various products to add to their daily income.
According to Evelyn Macabaya, secretary at TYFA, the event helped to increase some products to increase some income even more.

“We will use what we have learned to produce products including roasted peanuts, chili peanuts, sugar-coated peanuts, peanut kisses and other peanut products,” added Macabaya.

In order to also help the association to sell some products, SAAD collaborated with the pasalubong centers in Camiguin including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) so that TYFA could display some products in various display centers in the province.

TYFA was also a beneficiary of the chicken egg production business from SAAD last year.

Currently, the association can produce 19 trays of eggs every day, and sell them up to P4.6K in some communities.
