8 injured in volleyball game grenade blast in Maguindanao

MAGUINDANAO – Eight spectators witnessing a volleyball game were hurt in Datu Piang, this province when still unidentified suspects reportedly lobbed a grenade in the middle of people, the military report said.

The explosive immediately went off and people scampered for safety around 3:00 pm at the town’s covered court.

Lt. Colonel John Paul Baldomar, 6th Infantry Division spokesperson said that initial investigation revealed that a grenade was lobbed while people are focused on the game.

The police official said a phone-triggered device may have been used by the terrorist group, who want to sow terror in Maguindanao.  

 
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but police investigators are still “facing a blank wall” as to the motive of blasting the municipal covered court, where many people were watching the game.  

Meanwhile, investigators are still trying to identify the names of the suspects at press time. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the cowardly attack perpetrated by lawless elements. – PNA
