7 killed, 7 injured when a truck mowed crowd on a vigil in MisOr

CAGAYAN de Oro City–Six people were killed, 5 others were injured when an 18-wheeler trailer truck carrying a bulldozer, mowed people attending a vigil along the highway in Aplaya, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental Tuesday evening.

Killed were Lemuel Edurot, Hilardo Montecillo, Juvy Monticillo, Justine Pepito Lagno, 15, Welfredo Capillador, Jr., Erik Jaduma and unidentified person. Capillador and Edurot were both village councilmen of Aplaya. Doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Injured were Hilario Monticillo, Sheila Monticillo, Jerson Emanel, Ariel Ampion, Cristine Emanel. The victims were attending the wake of another traffic accident victim in the area. Marianito Makiling and Jeffrey Tipasi, all truck helpers, also suffered injuries.

Vincent Abulok, 26, driver of the trailer, said he was running at a speed between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour when the accident took place.

“I’ve seen the people, but I lost control of the trailer truck that headed toward the park motorcycles and private vehicles along the highway,” Abulok told police investigators.

He said that he left Butuan City Tuesday afternoon and is bound to Zamboanga to deliver the bulldozer there.

The 18-wheeler trailer truck is owned by the Hexagon Construction Company in Butuan City.

Police Major Evary Bacunawa said that the chassis of the trailer truck’s broke resulting in the failure of the truck driver to loss control of the 18-wheeler truck.

He said that Abulok would face charges with reckless imprudence resulting to multipole homicide, frustrated homecide and damaged to properties.
