6 Loose firearms and explosives, turned over to the Military in Maguindanao del Sur

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte – As many as seven (7) high-caliber guns were turned over by the five barangay chiefs of Sultan Sa Barongis (SSB) province of Maguindanao del Sur.

According to Lt. Col. Jayson Domingo, leader of the 1st Mechanized Battalion whose guns include two Cal. 30 M1 Garand Rifle, one RPG, one Cal. 50 Barret Sniper Rifles, one 9mm KG9 SMG, one 40mm M79 and ammunition; an M203 Grenade Launcher.

The turn-over ceremony of the balik-baril program was conducted at the Municipal Hall in SSB, Maguindanao Del Sur on August 22, 2023. It was witnessed by Hon. Allandatu M. Angas Sr., the mayor of Sultan in Barongis.

Brigadier General Andre Santos, Commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade accepted such loose firearms in the presence of Police Lt. Alfred Gregory, chief of Sultan Sa Barongis Municipal Police Station.

Major General Alex S. Rillera, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central said that this step is a great help to remove the instruments of violence from the hands of individuals who are not authorized to carry firearms . He said, “I commend the great contribution of our barangay officials, mayor of Sultan sa Barongis and other officials with your help to dismantle the loose firearms which is one of the programs of the administration of President Marcos Jr., to eradicate any criminality here in our place.”

As a result, the various LGUs have now turned over 111 high-caliber firearms to JTFC units, from the first month of January until now.
