59 dead, 40 survive as military aircraft crashes in Patikul, Sulu

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: A C-130 military aircraft carrying about 89 elements of the Army’s Fourth Infantry Division’s Joint Task Force, crash landed in Patikul, Sulu Sunday morning killing 59 military personnel, a source from the Philippine Air Force said.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity for lack of authorization, said that 40 passengers reportedly survived when the military aircraft overshoot the runway after it landed shortly before 11 o’clock Sunday morning.
The army’s Joint Task Force were sent to Patikul, Sulu as part of their mission to augment the Sulu-based military personnel of the Western Mindanao Military Command (WISMINCOM), the source said.
The source said that the C-130 military aircraft arrived at the Lumbia Airport in Cagayan De Oro City, home of the PAF’s Tactical Operation base in Northern Mindanao from Manila, about 8 o’clock Sunday morning with Maj. Gen. Delkx Brawner and his party.
Brawner was to officially assume as the new Commanding General of the 4ID Sunday.
The Mindanao Daily News tried to contact the 4ID”s Public Affairs Division in Camp Evangelista but failed.
The military aircraft fetched the army’s Joint Task Force, who were waiting at the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental, after Brawner and his party disembarked at the Lumbia Airport.-0-
