58IB: Election 2022 in MisOr peaceful, a success

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)—The 58th Infantry “Dimalulupig” Battalion (58IB) in partnership with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Philippine National Police (PNP)-10, and Department of Education (DepEd)-10 successfully completed its National and Local 2022 elections without failure in the province.

“We planned everything from the start to ensure that our area would have a peaceful election, and indeed, we succeeded through our collaborative efforts with other agencies and institutions,” said 58IB Commanding Officer Ricky Canatoy, May 10.

Since the onset of the campaign period, the 58IB in partnership with the PNP-Misamis Oriental has ensured the fair and proper enforcement of COMELEC checkpoints and gun bans to curb criminal activities and bolster security forces’ visibility.

Focusing on the hinterland conflict-affected areas, the 58IB held mobile patrol rounds before, during, and after the election was conducted in their area of operations.

Aside from paper jams from the vote counting machines (VCMs), no major disruption relating to the election was observed.

Canatoy said with the advent of change stemming from the National and Local Elections 2022, the 58IB remains committed and apolitical to serving the general public towards ending threats to security in the province.

“It’s time to move forward for our nation, we’ll concentrate our efforts on locating the remaining CTGs in our area of operations together with the newly elected officials, and be instruments for a more progressive and developed Misamis Oriental and Camiguin by completely eradicating communist insurgency in this country,” he said.
