55th EBDe reaffirms commitment for peace, progress

ILIGAN CITY (PIA) –As the 55th Engineering Brigade (EBde) of the Philippine Army completed the construction of two comfort rooms and handwashing facilities in Dulag Elementary School (ES) here, brigade deputy commander Col. Darwin Hernandez said they remain committed in the pursuit of peace and progress in the city.

During the turn-over ceremony of the Project Kahinyas spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Iligan Marawi Cristina, Hernandez said their sacrifice for the service for the nation will contribute to the development of a place and its people.

“Nasa puso namin ang pagseserbisyo. Gusto naming maibigay iyong whole hearted na support namin sa area dito. Kasi naniniwala kami sa mga tao dito na meron kayong potential na maingat ninyo ang ating bansang Pilipinas,” he said.

[Rendering service is in our hearts. We want to give our wholehearted support to your area here. Because we believe in the people here that you have the potential to take care of our country, the Philippines.]

Hernandez said their single step as army engineers is to serve the Filipino people which is one way of bringing peace and progress in the place.

Meanwhile, 1Lt Mary Claire Mayo of 554th Engineer Battalion under 55th EBde, said the difficulties they faced during the construction of the project did not hinder them to finish it. She also said that the construction of comfort rooms uphold the standard of good quality education for the children.

“Hindi ito basta-basta kasi tinaas natin ang standard ng kung ano ba ang estudyante na may sariling palikuran. Ang end-user na pupils ay sooner or later magiging good citizens ng bansa natin,” she said.

[This is not just simple because we have raised the standard of what pupil should have, to have his or her own toilet. The end-user which are pupils will sooner or later become good citizens of our country.]

Mayo also called on the beneficiaries to take good care of the project. She assured them that the army engineers are committed to provide support even if they are in far-flung areas. (LELA/ PIA Lanao del Norte)
