MARAMAG, Bukidnon: Another alleged rebel of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed Thursday bringing to five the number of NPA killed while 10 others, including three minors, were captured during a running gun battle in the hinterlands of Bukidnon that started Wednesday.
Maj. Francisco P. Garello, Jr., of the army’s 4ID Public Affairs Office, said that the four NPAs who were killed Wednesday were buried Immediately after one of them were found positive of COVID-19.
Garello said that the firefight took place in the hinterland villages of Mabuhay, San Fernando, Bukidnon Wednesday until Thursday.
Of the captured, five were women and three minors aged 7, 12, and 15 One of the women were admitted due to gunshot wounds while the minors were turned over to the town’s social welfare, Garello said.
Lt. Col. Jessie James Docdocil, chief of the Maramag police, said that the captured rebels will undergo a background check if they have pending warrants.
He said that government troopers of the army’s 88IB were dispatched to the area after receiving reports of the presence of armed group engaged in extortion in the area.“
Garello said that 16 high powered firearms consisting of AK47, M16 rifles, M14 rifles and M653 rifles, medicines, ammunition a motorcycle, backpacks and other personal belongings were recovered in the encounter site. – 0-
