CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City: The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army on Saturday joined the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in simultaneous activities to honor the fallen soldiers who died from the C130 plane crash in Patikul, Sulu.
Maj. Gen. Romeo Saturnino Brawner Jr, 4ID Commander, led the Officers, Enlisted Personnel and Civilian Human Resources in simultaneous Interfaith Memorial Service dubbed as “Buklurang Panalangin bilang Parangal sa mga Kasundaluahang Nasugatan at mga Nagbuwis ng Buhay sa Trahedya sa Pagbagsak ng C130” held at Fajardo Hall here.
Brawner said that the activity is in solidarity with the whole AFP in remembering the fallen soldiers who once dutifully served under the 4ID for the people of Caraga and Northern Mindanao Regions..
“We are gathered here to offer our prayers and give our highest salute to our brothers not only those who perished from the said accident but also those who survived and still recuperating,” Brawner said.
The intercession prayers during the interfaith service was followed by a wreath laying ceremony and the traditional 21 gun salute as a symbol of highest respect and thanksgiving to the invaluable contribution of the fallen heroes.
One of the highlights of the activity was the reading of the message of the AFP Chief of Staff, General Cirilito E Sobejana Jr, stressing the heroism of the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service to God, country and people.
Maj. Francisco Garello, Jr., of the army’s Public Affairs Office, said that an interfaith memorial service was also conducted simultaneously in Cagayan de Oro City as a tribute by the City government and the Archdiocese for the fallen soldiers. -0-
