CAMP VICENTE ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – A total of 436 police personnel in the regional police headquarter here were cleared of illegal drug use, the police regional office said Friday.

Lt. Col. Michelle S. Olaivar, the police regional spokesperson, said that the findings were the result of the surprise random drug test among police personnel in the region.

She said that the surprise drug test was carried out by the regional crime laboratory office on January 24, 2022, but the result was released only Friday.

Last year, four policemen were charged administratively and were dismissed from service after they were tested positive of using illegal drugs during the random test.

In a statement, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda, the police regional director in Northern Mindanao, said” that the surprise drug test were initiated to make sure that the police regional command was drug free.”

He said that the undertaking was also meant to maintain the trust of the public and to assure that our personnel were monitored from time to time to prevent the use of illegal substances among policemen.

Acorda said that Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 provides that officers and employees of public offices shall undergo random drug testing.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) mandates that the random drug testing ensures that government agencies remain drug-free, Acorda said -0-
