41 dead, 37 survived as Russian plane crash-land in Moscow Airport

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (MDN digital, May 6) – A member of Russia's Investigative Committee reported that 41 people were killed when a Russian passenger plane met a tragic accident Sunday (May 5) while negotiating a hard landing at an airport in Moscow.

Elena Markovskaya, a member of Russia's Investigative Committee has confirmed that 41 passengers died when said passenger plane made a fiery crash-landing Sunday in Sheremetyevo Airport. But there were also 37 passengers who cheated death, according to the committee report.

Police authorities are still accounting the dead bodies as well as those who survived the crash. Two children were reported dead as of press time.

Initial investigation disclosed that the Russian Superjet 100 was going to Murmansk from Moscow when suddenly a fire broke out. The Superjet pilot has decided to return to Moscow airport, and when it arrived at said airport, it negotiated a hard landing while the plane was on fire.

Based on initial account from responding rescue teams, 37 of the 78 passengers and crew survived.

Vladimir Putin, Russia's incumbent president has immediately ordered police and aviation authorities to conduct thorough investigation as what caused the fire on board the flying commercial plane. 

Videos posted on social media show the plane was engulfed with fire while already on the ground and some passengers are evacuating through the emergency slides.
