CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) and two military men were killed while four other army soldiers were wounded in a separate gun battle with state forces and NPA rebels in Agusan del Norte and Misamis Oriental, a belated military report said Saturday.
The military report identified the fatalities as Private First Class Glory A.Sagod, and Sgt. Van A. Tadlas, both of the army’s 29th Infantry Battalion. The identities of the four wounded army soldiers were not immediately released.
Lt. Gilo Lauringuez, the team leader of the 29IB, said that the army soldiers made an initial encounter with an undetermined number of armed NPA rebels, serving as blocking forces, in the village of Santiago, Agusan Del Norte teo fays ago resulting in the death of PFC Sagod.
Lauringuez said that the government troopers were on their way to resupply another pursuing army unit, which earlier encountered with the NPA rebels of the Guerilla Front 16 of the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Command, when fired upon by the rebels.
Earlier, the advance pursuing state forces ran into an lmprovised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the retreating NPA resulting to the wounding of four military personnel and the death of Sgt. Tadlas due to fatal wounds, Lauringuez said.
In Misamis Oriental, the army’s 58IB encountered a grouo of armed rebels Tuesday in Salay, Misamis Oriental, which resulted in the death of an NPA rebel and the recovery of an NPA cadaver with a high powered firearm.
Lt. Jefferson Mariano, spokesperson of the 58IB, identified the slain NPA rebel as Elly Marianas Cabusog, alias ‘Dariel,” a member of Guerilla Front Huawei of the Sub-regional Committee 1 of North Central Mind Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC).
Marianas is a resident of Salahon, part of the mointain village of Alipuaton, Salay, MisMis Oriental.
Mariano said that the government troopers also recovered an unidentified cadaver with his M16 rifle, personal belongings and medical paraphernalia.
He said that the cadaver was left for dead by his comrades. The bodies of the slain NPA rebels were turned over to the local government in Salay, Misamis Oriental to ne accorded with a decent burial. -0-
