During the graduation ceremony held at 25th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Monkayo, 32 former rebels got NCI on Shielded Metal Arc Welding, while the other six acquired NCII on Animal Production (Swine).
Aside from the certificates, TESDA XI also distributed starter kits to the graduates.
Former TESDA provincial director of Compostela Valley and now transferred to Davao del Norte, Arlyn Bandong stressed that the the program is a clear evidence that the government did not neglect men and women in the mountains or wherever they are.
Bandong said that the training skills for the former rebels are just one of the many programs of the government geared towards attaining lasting peace in the country.
Among the graduates of the welding class is alias Dell, 23, who was a member of the New People's Army from 2014 until her surrender on May 2018.
As the only woman among the group, she said that even if welding is dominated by men, she did not feel that the training was difficult.
"Makaya ra man kung kursunada lang ka ug determinado; ning sampa man gani sa bukid na wala'y kapadulngan, kini pa kaya," Dell said.
Dell plans to put up a shop at their place in Davao Oriental since she observed that there are no welding shop near their community.
She emphasized that the entrepreneurship seminar also conducted by TESDA last June 2019 helped her decide on putting up the shop at her place.
