CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Thirty-two former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Agusan del Sur received a total of P160,000 as “reintegration cash aid” from the municipal government of La Paz, Agusan del Sur, the military said Monday.

Lt. Cecille C. Tappa, of the army’s 26th Infantry Battalion based in San Luis, Agusan del Sir, said that town Mayor Michael D. Lim, of La Paz, distributed P 5,000 cash to each of the 32 former rebels in coordination with the military.

Tappa said that the beneficiaries were former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who surrendered voluntarily to the army’s 26IB in La Paz.

“The local government of La Paz, together with all local government agencies, is committed to continue supporting the former rebels as mandated by the Executive Order No. 70,” Lim said.

E0 No. 70 aims to facilitate the delivery of government programs and basic services to the marginalized communities as parr of the “whole nation approach” to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).

ELCAC aims to attain an inclusive and sustainable peace in the country, which aims to address the root causes of insurgency as a means to end armed conflict, Lim said. -0-
