CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: About 30 village chiefs in seaport capital of 700,000 people in Northern Mindanao signed a manifesto supporting the mayoral candidacy of Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez.
Village Chief Pedro Balite, of Kauswagan, one of the largest villages (barangays) of the city’s 80 villages, said that the manifesto was signed by village chiefs (barangay captains) of the city’s largest voting population villages.
Balite, a ranking member of the local opposition Padayon Pilipino political party, said that the manifesto of support was in anticipation if the Padayon failed to nominate a standard bearer for the city’s mayoral post.
As the regional Padayon Pilipino chairman, Provincial governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano, of Misamis Oriental, was the Padayon’s strongest bet for the mayoral post in Cagayan de Oro City.
During the Padayon regional convention, however, the political party approved the nomination of Emano as the candidate for the Second Congressional District of Misamis Oriental.
Emano has yet to accept the nomination and hinted that he might run for Mayor of Cagayan de Oro pending result of negotiation with allied political party.
The Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines, a political party founded in 2010 and headed by Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez is the political ally of the Padayon Pilipino.
Amid the Padayon uncertain nomination, the village chief members signed a manifesto of support for Rodriguez as the only qualified allied candidate to run as standard bearer for the mayoral post here.-0-
