CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Three ranking members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered in Agusan Del Norte in their desire to live peacefully with their family, the military said Friday.
Col. Jason M. Saldua, Commanding Officer of the army’s 29th Infantry Battalion based in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte, said that the NPA rebels surrendered on Aug 29, 2022.
Saldua identified the surrenderer as Rolly N Gabi alias “Longlong,” who surrendered one high-powered firearm with one magazine and
Jovanie Asay alias “Janix/Junry,”all residents of Brgy Bangayan, Kitcharao, Agusan Del Norte, and
John Leno M Cabrera alias “Rom/Makoy,” of Brgy La Purisima, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
According to Saldua, aside from fatigue, hunger and being fugitives, the NPA rebels confessed that they realized that they were fighting a futile struggle that had destroyed families and their future.
He said that the surrenderer could avail of the government’s Enhanced- Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
Under E-CLIP, a rebel surrenderer would be extended livelihood programs of the government, scholarship, and various programs designed to integrate the rebel to the society’s mainstream. -0-
