IMPASUG-ONG, Bukidnon – Two rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed while two others were captured, as fresh fighting between state forces and communist rebels erupted anew in Bukidnon, the military said Tuesday.
Lt. Abigail F. Lorenzo, theCivil-Military Operation Officer, 8ID, identified the casualties as Alias Draw, member of the dismantled Squad 1, Platoon Dario, Sub-Regional Committee 2, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) and Alias Paet, Communication Staff/Special Operations Group/Intel of Regional Operations Command.
The captured two NPAs were Nisy Sante Alias Arnold, 72, Supply Officer, Squad 1, Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG) Compaq, NCMRC; and Gelloye Lipanya Sagula Alias Janjan, 20, member, Squad 2, Team Abe of the same unit.
Lorenzo said the soldiers were responding to reports of the presence of an armed group in the area when they engaged five NPA rebels in a brief firefight in the hinterland village of Kibalabag, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon Monday.
She said three caliber .45 pistols, one 9mm pistol, five magazines, one cellphone, and medical supplies were also seized at the encounter site.
Lorenzo said that during the search of the area, the soldiers rescued seven civilians and four minors who were almost caught in the cross fire.
The civilians were transported to a safer ground were they underwent debriefing before they were sent home. -0-
