Binibining Pilipinas 2019 candidates turn ‘Pet Pals’ for a day

April 30, 2019

After bonding with students with autism during the World Autism Awareness Day last April 2, the Binibining Pilipinas 2019 contestants spent time with pets going through rehabilitation at the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in Quezon City.      Reinforcing the campaign “Beyond Beauty,” the Binibining Pilipinas 2019 candidates attended another charity activity last Friday, April 26.      After bonding with students with autism during the World Autism Awareness Day last April 2, the contestants spent time with pets going through rehabilitation at the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in Quezon City.      The activity was initiated by Araneta Center’s Pet Pals program in partnership with Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. The Pet Pals initiative, which started last year, welcomes pet owners and their pets to the premier live-work-play destination in the metro. For more information, visit the Pet Pals page on the Araneta Center website (www.aranetacenter.net/petpals).      The candidates donated 140 kilos of cat food to PAWS and bonded with the dogs and cats under the institution’s care. They also talked about ways to take care of pets especially during summer.      While the candidates are busy preparing for the glitzy and glamorous events of Binibining Pilipinas, including the Grand Parade of Beauties on May 25, the Fashion Show on May 29, and the Grand Coronation Night on June 9, they have also been actively personifying the Beyond Beauty slogan by attending charity events and workshops. Aside from their participation in Big Dome Lights Blue for World Autism Awareness Day and their visit at PAWS, the candidates are also scheduled to attend an activity that promotes taking care of the environment and an art appreciation workshop.        “We want the candidates to embody beauty that’s more than just physical. We want them to live the essence of a woman that is empowered, sure of herself, fearless, courageous and at the same time, loving and caring,” psychoneurologist Dr. Lia Bernardo, who facilitated their “Empowerment is Authenticity” workshop last April 11. This was the first time that all 40 candidates participated in the workshop, which in previous years was offered only to the winners of the pageant. This is just one of the changes in this year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant under the direction of its chair Mrs. Stella Marquez Araneta.      To follow the candidates’ journey, visit www.bbpilipinas.com and follow our social media pages: @RealBbPilipinas on Facebook and Twitter and @BbPilipinasOfficial on Instagram.

Envizion Philippines holds 2019 summer bash

April 23, 2019

ENVIZION Philippines, one of the leading English tutorial providers to Japanese students which is located in Cagayan de Oro City, had just held its yearly thanksgiving fellowship not just to its employees but their family members as well. The event, simply dubbed as Envizion Summer Night, was held last April 13 at the spacious Sagatech resort in barangay Bulua, this city. According to Envizion Philippines finance and administrative manager Mary Joy de Borja-Ortega, the summer bash is an annual treat of the company to its employees as its way of gratitude to them for maintaining excellent service to its valued Japanese clientele. The pool party at Sagatech which kicked off at sunset through the wee hours of the night was splashed with song, dancing, poi performances, unlimited barbecue and beer plus nonstop club mixes courtesy of famed DJ Kyle, unarguably one of the most sought after in this part of the island. Since the company’s three years of existence, it has always been a point of Envizion to hold summer thanksgiving to its employees. The first one in 2017 was held in Chali Beach Resort here in Cagayan de Oro City; and the second one last year in 2018 was held in Dakak in Dapitan City. Envizion Philippines opened at Lifestyle District in Cagayan de Oro City last August 2016. The company has steadily grown throughout the years providing English online tutorial and is now at 250 seats. Envizion Philippines has likewise been named as Best English Online Tutorial Center in the Golden Globe Annual Awards for Business Excellence 2019 which was held April 5 at the Manila Hotel Grand Ballroom.

160-KM trail kicks off annual tribute for Bataan Death March heroes and survivors

April 4, 2019

Former US Navy SEALs together with hundreds of our country’s armed forces, police and civilian volunteers, paid tribute to our World War II heroes in a 160 kilometers ‘Freedom Trail’ from KM Zero in Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac.      Freedom Trail is an annual event organized by the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB), in partnership with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), and the Provincial Government of Bataan. The event honors the sacrifice and bravery of Filipino and American World War II heroes and survivors. Participants trail the 160 kilometer route that spans three provinces for 42 hours.      Veterans Bank’s Freedom Trail traces the actual route of the Bataan Death March from KM Zero Mariveles in Bataan, to San Fernando Pampanga, up to Capas in Tarlac. The Freedom Trail kicks off the 77th year commemoration of the Bataan Death March.      “Freedom Trail is our way of remembering our World War II veterans’ bravery and heroism during the war. They have sacrificed life and limb for our country’s freedom. Let the Freedom Trail be a constant reminder for our next generations,” said Mike Villa-Real, Head of Veterans Bank’s Marketing Communications Division.      The Death March, considered as one of the darkest days in Philippine History, is the forcible transfer of 60,000-80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war (POW) from Saysain Point, Bagac, Bataan and Mariveles to Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac. The prisoners were loaded onto box cars in San Fernando, Pampanga. The transfer began on April 9, 1942 and left thousands dead and seriously wounded after enduring torture under the hands of the Japanese Imperial Army.      The Death March route stretches from Mariveles in Bataan to Capas, Tarlac via San Fernando, Pampanga. The total distance covered was from 96 to 112 kms.      This year’s commemoration activities also includes “Ride for Valor,” a competitive bike tour to be held on March 10 from Kilometer Zero in Bataan to Capas, Tarlac; and the Bataan Freedom Run that will be held on April 14, 2019. Bike and running enthusiasts are invited to register for the events.      Proceeds from the activities will be used for the restoration and maintenance of historical markers along the route of the Bataan Death March.      To register and find out more, visit the Facebook pages of the Bataan Freedom Run and the Veterans Bank Freedom Trail.
