Make X’mas giving easier with Cucina Higala’s Potluck Dishes

November 23, 2019

Remember when you used to look forward to preparing food for all those parties, barkada and family reunions during the Christmas holidays? What used to be one of life’s simple pleasures to look forward to has become an increasingly stressful chore with the inevitable rise in prices of ingredients as Christmas gets closer, the gauntlet one has to go through buying all those ingredients and bringing them home to the kitchen, not to mention the LPG tank running out just when a dish is halfway cooked, or a brownout making an unwelcome appearance right about when the chicken in the microwave is done. Cucina Higala, Mindanao’s Heritage Cuisine Restaurant, introduces its Potluck Dishes and Trays to relieve you of all that hassle. With 17 Potluck Dishes to choose from, a potluck reunion with the clan or your high school reunion becomes a breeze. Potluck Dishes can be ordered in two sizes: Family Trays are good for 6-8 persons or Party Trays good for 12-15 persons.     “We wish to share our Mindanao Heritage Dishes to as many people as possible and the Potluck Dishes are our contribution to making it easier for customers to prepare for simple Potluck Events or bigger gatherings,” said Mr. Jan Michael Uy, president & CEO of Cucina Higala. Simply order the Potluck Dish of your choice, tray size and your dish is ready for pick up in as little as 20 minutes and off you go sans the hassle and stress of shopping for your ingredients, cooking and packaging your dish. To make it even easier, you can order through delivery apps like Food Panda or Streetby. “Another feature of our Potluck Dishes is our improved packaging,” he added. “We have upgraded to hard plastic containers which have airtight lids which besides guaranteeing freshness and preventing spills, can be reused for other purposes or for reordering the customer’s next Potluck dish,” Jan adds. The Cucina Higala Mindanao Heritage Dishes which are included in the Potluck Dishes lineup include Calamares, Fresh Lumpia, Tuna Flakes Salad, Lumpia Shanghai, Fiesta Pancit, Beef Kare-Kare, Humba de Oro, Blue Marlin Skewers, Beef Calderata, Cucina Higala Fried Chicken, Crispy Pata, Binagoonang Pork Liempo, Lengua Estofado as well as all-time favorites with a new twist like Wagyu Beef Brisket Randang, Beef Kare-Kare and Steamed Pompano. “In choosing dishes for our Mindanao Heritage Menu, we don’t simply do our version of all time favorites,” Jan explains. “For instance, Beef Randang is a favorite in Lanao using beef or carabeef. However, we chose to bring it to the next level by using Wagyu Beef Brisket as our basic ingredient, so those familiar with the usual Randang will enjoy a new experience with a familiar dish in a new presentation.” Besides being available during the coming Christmas season, Cucina Higala’s Potluck Dishes will also be available when the need calls for it during March graduation month, August Fiesta Month, barangay fiesta dates or family occasions like anniversaries, birthdays and passing the board exams, when the occasion calls for something extra special which can be easily ordered and picked up by the celebrants. Cucina Higala is located at Capistrano-Mabini Sts., Cagayan De Oro City For inquiries or reservations, pls. call # +639177946118 or message them at their Facebook fan page

Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier to hold invitational contests on November 22-23

November 22, 2019

Cagayan de Oro City - The issue on the government’s War on Drugs has gripped the country into a complicated, continuous, and critical debate.  Our government has taken a strong stand against the sale and use of drugs as it vows to put an end to its proliferation in our communities.   Many quarters question the effectivity of the government’s efforts and raise serious concerns on the human rights violations resulting from the methods used in the war on drugs.  In this year’s I.D.E.A. (An Invitational for Debate, Essay, and Art), high school students from all over Mindanao join the conversation and bring forward their perspective on how best to address this pressing issue.   I.D.E.A. 2019 is unlike other academic competitions both in scope and impact. It is the biggest and most influential multi-disciplinary inter-school competition in Mindanao with over 200 junior high school students from around 50 public and private schools from the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, and Bukidnon and the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Cotabato, Iligan, Ozamiz, Tangub, Malaybalay, and Valencia.   The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier, in cooperation with Acer Philippines and Zion Diagnostics, proudly brings back I.D.E.A. 2019 where the students will compete in 4 scholastic events: Debate, Essay, Editorial Cartoon and Painting.  These young minds will grapple with topics which revolve around this year’s theme: “Resolving the Philippines’ War on Drugs” seen in light of the complications of achieving success in abating and controlling drug use. “We wish to engage young students in Mindanao to think about and have informed opinions on important issues and to realize that they are stakeholders in their own communities”, says RC CDO Premier Past President and Over-all Project Chair Marion Hazel Du.   The Invitational, launched in 2015 as part of the RC CDO Premier’s mandate to address Rotary International’s six areas of focus, specifically the promotion of peace and conflict resolution, will be a two-day affair. It will be held on November 22-23, 2019 at Pilgrim Christian College, Cagayan de Oro City. Previous themes have addressed the following peace and conflict issues:  2015 – the proposed creation of a Bangsamoro region; 2016 – the territorial dispute between the Philippines and China; and 2017 – lasting peace achieved through use of force as learned from the lessons of the Marawi siege.   “It is important to hear what the youth of Mindanao have to say about relevant and pressing topics, albeit controversial, which affect them the most,” adds RC CDO President  Maria Teresa Sarraga. Thus, I.D.E.A. 2019 was not envisioned merely as an academic competition. It is also geared to be a public awareness and public information platform on peace and conflict resolution issues, including the struggle to finally put an end to the drug problem in the country today.   I.D.E.A. 2019 is brought to you by the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier in partnership with ACER Philippines and Zion Diagnostics.  This event would also not have been made possible without the support of our major sponsors RBJ Contrex, Rep. Juliette Uy of the 2nd District of Misamis Oriental, The Pink Box, Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Jr., Mrs. Jahara Ampatua, GTS Construction and Supply, and Pyramid Consolidated Builders & General Merchandise. RC CDO Premier also thanks the minor sponsors Jugador Trading Ventures, Inc., Domvee Enterprises, NJJ Enterprises, FAM General Merchandise, Technomart, New Leaf Bakery, Philtown Hotel, DML Trucking and Equipment, Natidome Corporation, Marvilla Beach, Provincial Board Member Jessa Mugot, Star Ads, and Bank of Commerce.
