From foodies going on gastronomic adventures, thrill-seekers searching for the next adrenaline-pumping activity, to eco-warriors participating in environmental projects, many young travelers are driven by their hobbies and advocacies when exploring destinations.  In this all-new Juan for Fun 2019, participants will journey around the Philippines – visiting new places, trying unique activities, and unlocking memorable travel milestones to enrich their personal passions and stories.  Cebu Pacific chose five enthusiastic and passion-driven travelers out of thousands of nominees to go on a week-long backpacking trip in search of destinations and activities that will cultivate a deeper appreciation for the country, as well as enrich their own stories.  Juan For Fun 2019 was opened to nominees aged 18-24 with amazing life stories and a meaningful reason to travel. Five (5) winners were chosen to go on a 7-day, all-expense paid trip around the country with two (2) travel buddies to join them on their epic adventure.  The Finalists were chosen for their inspiring stories on the environment, as a siege survivor, an adventurous spirit, and the joys of a first-time traveler.  The criteria for judging focused on 60% story and 40% personality. For instance, what made the nominee’s story amazing, where they wanted to travel in the Philippines and how this could change their lives, as well as the choice of their hashtags for their trips.  Nominations were closed on July 10, 2019. The chosen winners and their travel buddies are now in the midst of their all-expense paid trip from August 2-7, 2019 and include the following:  ·Dariel Vallez, an agriculture graduate of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP formerly MOSCAT) from Claveria, Misamis Oriental who wants to travel to promote agriculture as a avocation for the youth; ·Bin Nur Magangcong, a Marawi siege survivor from the Mindanao State University Marawi Main Campus awarded the Medal of Courage for helping to rebuild his city and who hopes to champion understanding of different Filipino cultures; ·Jeric Cabanillas, an artist, Palawan Museum Tour Guide from Palawan State University who founded an NGO for theeducation of less fortunate children in Palawan; ·Jessica Resch, a Cebuana member of the  Ultimate Frisbee PH Team who won a bronze medal last June at Shiraham, Japan and founded an NGO “We Feed” that reaches out to kids in the Visayas, Clark and Bukidnon and auctions jerseys of famous Frisbee players to fund her advocacy; and ·Artus Enriquez, a young bird watcher from the National University in the National Capital Region who aims to create a Biology Conservation Facility as a shelter for the country’s endemic bird species.   Each team received adventure passports with curated travel itineraries featuring Cebu Pacific destinations such as Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Mindoro, Puerto Princesa, and Siargao.  The trip of this year’s winners will be all about visiting new places, trying unique activities and achieving travel milestones that would fuel their passion. “Through Juan for Fun, Cebu Pacific has enabled students to go out of their comfort zones and bring them to local communities where they can gain meaningful first travel experiences.  The winners were oriented with an exclusive travel workshop for a day, learn all about immersive travel experiences, and receive mentorship from the Juan For Fun coaches.  They were mentored by travel writer Jude Bacalso, TV host and social media personality Joyce Pring, and Becoming Filipino’sKyle ‘Kulas’ Jennermann, along with first-time coach, celebrity and vlogger Mikael Daez.  During the send-off party for the teams at the new Dusit Thani in Lapu-Lapu City (Mactan), Cebu, the Juan For Fun mentors took the stage to share practical tips and advice on making the most out of the trip.  Kulas shared his experiences on learning through travel; while Jude Bacalso focused on preserving Filipino heritage, going as far as to introduce four Cebuano street food entrepreneurs who  elevated Cebuano street food to the culinary stratosphere through their passion and dedication. The Pet Pals initiative, which started last year, welcomes pet owners and their pets to the premier live-work-play destination in the metro. For more information, visit the Pet Pals page on the Araneta Center website (www.aranetacenter.net/petpals).      The candidates donated 140 kilos of cat food to PAWS and bonded with the dogs and cats under the institution’s care. They also talked about ways to take care of pets especially during summer.      While the candidates are busy preparing for the glitzy and glamorous events of Binibining Pilipinas, including the Grand Parade of Beauties on May 25, the Fashion Show on May 29, and the Grand Coronation Night on June 9, they have also been actively personifying the Beyond Beauty slogan by attending charity events and workshops. Aside from their participation in Big Dome Lights Blue for World Autism Awareness Day and their visit at PAWS, the candidates are also scheduled to attend an activity that promotes taking care of the environment and an art appreciation workshop.        “We want the candidates to embody beauty that’s more than just physical. We want them to live the essence of a woman that is empowered, sure of herself, fearless, courageous and at the same time, loving and caring,” psychoneurologist Dr. Lia Bernardo, who facilitated their “Empowerment is Authenticity” workshop last April 11. This was the first time that all 40 candidates participated in the workshop, which in previous years was offered only to the winners of the pageant. Biggest audience turnout makes Binibining Pilipinas history

March 6, 2018

The excitement surrounding this batch of candidates was at its highest, and this led to the biggest number of ticket sales for the coronation night to date. With a bigger stage comprised of multiple stairs and landings, and dressed with LED monitors and lighted acrylic trimmings, it was one of the most striking presentations of the prestigious pageant, befitting the most beautiful women in the country. The Big Dome was filled with hordes of fans with lighted signs and letters spelling out their chosen candidates’ names; some even came with whistles and other paraphernalia to cheer their favorites on. It was a night of frontrunner triumphs and interesting revelations when the judges finally announced the new Queens. The appreciative audience cheered for 2nd Runner-up Samantha Bernardo and 1st Runner-up Vickie Rushton; they made a lot of noise when the new queens were called: Karen Gallman was named this year’s Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental; Michele Gumabao, Binibining Pilipinas Globe; Eva Patalinjug, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International; Jehza Mae Huelar, Binibining Pilipinas Supranational; and Ahtisa Manalo, Binibining Pilipinas International. But the loudest cheers erupted when favorite Catriona Gray was named this year’s Miss Philippines Universe. The Fil-Australian beauty who represents Albay had described joining this year’s competition as nerve-wracking. Her vocal and very passionate fans, collectively known as Catrionians, feel she is ripe to bring home a fourth Miss Universe title after Pia Wurtzbach. “The Binibini fans are wonderful,” say Mrs. Stella Marquez Araneta, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. chair. “They give so much love to the ladies; their support really boosts the candidates’ confidence, and sees them thru the trying periods in this competition. We will not be able to keep doing this without them.” The new Queens are now busy doing media interviews and other Binibini-related appearances. Catch more of them on the official Binibining Pilipinas Facebook page (@realbbpilipinas) and the official website. For pageant fanatics, the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 souvenir magazine is also being sold at the Snaxx counter of Gateway Cineplex, 4th level, Gateway Mall.
