Passion drives Cebu Pacific’s Juan For Fun 2019

August 5, 2019

There’s a new passion driving Cebu Pacific’s eight edition of its iconic Juan for Fun backpacking adventure! This year’s Juan For Fun takes on an inspiring route to bring personalized travel experiences to young Filipinos with #MyHashtagTrip. From foodies going on gastronomic adventures, thrill-seekers searching for the next adrenaline-pumping activity, to eco-warriors participating in environmental projects, many young travelers are driven by their hobbies and advocacies when exploring destinations.  In this all-new Juan for Fun 2019, participants will journey around the Philippines – visiting new places, trying unique activities, and unlocking memorable travel milestones to enrich their personal passions and stories.  Cebu Pacific chose five enthusiastic and passion-driven travelers out of thousands of nominees to go on a week-long backpacking trip in search of destinations and activities that will cultivate a deeper appreciation for the country, as well as enrich their own stories.  Juan For Fun 2019 was opened to nominees aged 18-24 with amazing life stories and a meaningful reason to travel. Five (5) winners were chosen to go on a 7-day, all-expense paid trip around the country with two (2) travel buddies to join them on their epic adventure.  The Finalists were chosen for their inspiring stories on the environment, as a siege survivor, an adventurous spirit, and the joys of a first-time traveler.  The criteria for judging focused on 60% story and 40% personality. For instance, what made the nominee’s story amazing, where they wanted to travel in the Philippines and how this could change their lives, as well as the choice of their hashtags for their trips.  Nominations were closed on July 10, 2019. The chosen winners and their travel buddies are now in the midst of their all-expense paid trip from August 2-7, 2019 and include the following:  ·Dariel Vallez, an agriculture graduate of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP formerly MOSCAT) from Claveria, Misamis Oriental who wants to travel to promote agriculture as a avocation for the youth; ·Bin Nur Magangcong, a Marawi siege survivor from the Mindanao State University Marawi Main Campus awarded the Medal of Courage for helping to rebuild his city and who hopes to champion understanding of different Filipino cultures; ·Jeric Cabanillas, an artist, Palawan Museum Tour Guide from Palawan State University who founded an NGO for theeducation of less fortunate children in Palawan; ·Jessica Resch, a Cebuana member of the  Ultimate Frisbee PH Team who won a bronze medal last June at Shiraham, Japan and founded an NGO “We Feed” that reaches out to kids in the Visayas, Clark and Bukidnon and auctions jerseys of famous Frisbee players to fund her advocacy; and ·Artus Enriquez, a young bird watcher from the National University in the National Capital Region who aims to create a Biology Conservation Facility as a shelter for the country’s endemic bird species.   Each team received adventure passports with curated travel itineraries featuring Cebu Pacific destinations such as Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Mindoro, Puerto Princesa, and Siargao.  The trip of this year’s winners will be all about visiting new places, trying unique activities and achieving travel milestones that would fuel their passion. “Through Juan for Fun, Cebu Pacific has enabled students to go out of their comfort zones and bring them to local communities where they can gain meaningful first travel experiences.  The winners were oriented with an exclusive travel workshop for a day, learn all about immersive travel experiences, and receive mentorship from the Juan For Fun coaches.  They were mentored by travel writer Jude Bacalso, TV host and social media personality Joyce Pring, and Becoming Filipino’sKyle ‘Kulas’ Jennermann, along with first-time coach, celebrity and vlogger Mikael Daez.  During the send-off party for the teams at the new Dusit Thani in Lapu-Lapu City (Mactan), Cebu, the Juan For Fun mentors took the stage to share practical tips and advice on making the most out of the trip.  Kulas shared his experiences on learning through travel; while Jude Bacalso focused on preserving Filipino heritage, going as far as to introduce four Cebuano street food entrepreneurs who  elevated Cebuano street food to the culinary stratosphere through their passion and dedication. Resident traveler Joyce lent some insights on island conservation while Mikael gave some tips on trying new cuisines in new destinations.  On our way back to Cagayan de Oro after covering the Send Off Party for the teams at the new Dusit Thani in Lapu-Lapu City (Mactan) Cebu, we were fortunate enough to catch Team J led by Jeric Cabanillas and his companions Mea Arn Esparas Alisiaand Maria Manyenina Taboh on the same flight to Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental on their way to Cagayan de Oro.  Thank you Cebu Pacific for choosing the City of Golden Friendship among your list of curated destinations!
