RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The Filipino community in Tunisia expressed appreciation for Sen. Christhoper Lawrence “Bong” Go’s continuing concern for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) vowing to support the lawmaker now that he is part of the country’s legislative branch.
Senator Go greeted the Filipinos in Tunisia through a special video message during their meeting with Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs Robert Borje at the Philippine consulate in Tunis.
Undersecretary Borje is President Rodrigo Duterte’s Special Envoy to Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
The senator also joined distressed Filipinos in Jeddah during an early Christmas celebration also through a special message.
Senator Go said it is an honor for him to greet OFWs in celebrating the Yuletide underscoring that through their sacrifices, they ensure the welfare of their families and help build the nation.
“Kaya naman para sa Bagong Taon, aking hangad para sa inyong lahat ay ang biyaya ng kalusugan, pagmamahal at kasaganaan,” he said in his message that got a strong reception from Filipinos.
During the last senatorial election, Go run on a platform of protecting the rights and welfare of OFWs. Among the OFW interests he champions are the creation of the Department of OFWs and the provision of accessible health care to returning workers.
In Riyadh, the members of the Filipino community also expressed their continued solidarity with the Duterte administration and Senator Go as they push for creation of the Department of OFWs.
Undersecretary Borje conveyed the President Duterte’s message to the OFWs in Riyadh saying the administration is working hard to improve the Philippine economy to provide Filipinos with local jobs. PND
