TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental,– Tangub City is declared as a drug-free city in northern Mindanao.

"Out of the nine cities in Northern Mindanao, I am happy to announce that Tangub City has earned the distinction as the first "drug-free city in Northern Mindanao," Police Brigadier General Timoteo Pacleb said during a ceremony held at Tangub City recognizing the successful multi-agency drug clearing campaign of the city.

The declaration came after Tangub City complied with all the requirements set forth by the Dangerous Drugs Board Resolution No. 03, Series of 2017, including non-availability of drug supply; absence of drug den, pusher, user; absence of clandestine drug laboratory; active involvement of barangay officials in anti-drug activities; existence of drug awareness, preventive education and information; and existence of voluntary and compulsory drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desk.

The "drug-free" declaration was made official through an oversight committee resolution approved by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 10 Director Wilkins Villanueva, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 10 Dir. Arnel Agabe, Police Regional Office (PRO) 10 director Brig Gen Pacleb, Department of Health (DOH) Region 10 Dir. Nimfa Torrizo and Tangub City mayor Atty. Philip Tan.

Pacleb said the challenge for Tangub City now is to sustain this status and serve as benchmark for other cities to follow.

"On our end, PRO10 will continue to reach out to Tangub City to sustain its 'drug-free' status and compliment it with corresponding aggressive anti-illegal drugs operations in the adjoining cities and other areas in Misamis Occidental and the rest of Northern Mindanao," Pacleb said.
