Promote CDO to Promote Normin

Founded as the Promote CDO Foundation Inc. on March 15, 2002, Promote NorMin Foundation Inc. is a private, voluntary, non-stock non-profit corporation which serves as a venue for the convergence of the public and private sectors in the promotion of the social, cultural and economic development of Cagayan de Oro and its environs.

The Foundation changed its name to Promote NorMin Foundation, Inc. as a bow to the emerging metropolization of Cagayan de Oro and its adjacent cities and municipalities in the region.

Promote NorMin is composed of key executives of the major business establishments in the region (commercial, industrial, educational) and executives of Local Government and key National Line Agencies.

It aims to rationalize social, cultural, and economic promotions and conservation events by working together as a group and thus maximizing the use of resources from both the government and private sectors

The City of Cagayan de Oro has experienced tremendous growth in previous years. With its strategic location, the city naturally evolved as the trade and service center for Mindanao. The city’s natural endowments were reinforced by the presence of the basic infrastructure and amenities supported by a focused vision for its economic future.

This was made possible by the strategic alliance espoused by both private and government sectors to help shape the landscape and local governance to enhance Cagayan de Oro’s role as a premier trade and service center in the country.

To further rationalize the growth directions of the city, a group of local businessmen identified the need to promote Cagayan de Oro City in a sustained and continuous manner. Thus, in January 2000, Rep. Constantino G. Jaraula of the Lone Congressional District of Cagayan de Oro, requested the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to gather key officers of the major companies operating in the city and province to solicit their support for a unified investment promotion program for the city, and at the same time support and encourage preservation and enrichment of its historical identity and cultural heritage.

From the Congressional Development Fund, Rep. Jaraula commissioned the University of Asia and the Pacific (UAP) to come up with Strategic Investment Promotion Program for Cagayan de Oro.
