The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said programs for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) affected by the coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic will continue under the Bayanihan to Recover As One Act (Bayanihan 2).

"Dahil sa Bayanihan 2 ay nadagdagan ang pondo at makakapagpautang pa tayo sa mga mas nakakarami pang micro SMEs," said DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez in today's episode of Laging Handa network briefing hosted by Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.

(Due to Bayanihan 2, the funding has increased and we can extend loan assistance to more micro SMEs.)

Lopez said this includes MSMEs in the tourism sector to help them recover from the harsh impacts of the pandemic.

In Iligan City and Lanao del Norte, 50 out of the 86 approved MSMEs have benefited from the COVID–19 Assistance to Restart Enterprises (CARES) program as of press time.

One of the beneficiaries, Rhodelia Sojor of Emrys Industries, was thankful for the assistance that will help reboot her establishment.

“I truly appreciate the DTI and SB Corporation family for their collective effort in helping each other rise above personal grief and challenges so we would have the timely release of this CARES program," Sojor said.

Meanwhile, Lopez reminded the public to be careful when going out and to follow the seven commandments of safety.

The DTI chief also expressed optimism that the economy will recover as the government shifts its strategies from risk avoidance to risk management.

"Tayo ay magre-reopen ng economy, subalit tayo ay magre-reopen ng maingat (we will reopen the economy but we will reopen it safely). We have learned to really take care of ourselves and prevent transmission," he added. (APB/PIA-ICIC)
