ILIGAN CITY ----- Amid the shortage of facemasks, members of Iligan City Mobile Force Company (ICMFC) have taken initiatives making facemasks out of old and delapidated police uniforms.

ICMFC chief Lieutenant Colonel Roger Kent Andoy said his personnel thought of making makeshift facemasks because of insufficient facemasks they have while manning the checkpoint 24/7.

The ICMFC is assigned to man at the checkpoint in Barangay Buruun, one of the five entry points in Iligan City for motorists coming from Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Ozamiz City and Zamboanga City.

"We have a lot of old and delapidated uniforms in the office supposedly to be made into pillows. But because there are many of us don't have mask to use, we came with that idea," Andoy said.

Two female and a male cops led the manual sewing of the facemasks.

Once they finished some, we distribute it to those in the checkpoint.

"Thidelapidated de us discovered how innovative our police are. The scarcity of the things we badly need made our talent come out," Andoy said.

At the police station 4, cops were given an acetate sheet to attach it to their PNP cap as makeshift face shield.

Major Abogado Mautin, chief of Iligan City Police Station 4, said his office got the idea because of the fact that 'social distancing' is impossible for them in the field.

"It is impossible for us to observe social distancing of atleast one and a half to two meters in the checkpoint because when we verify a person ask them of the origin and destination, we have to get closer to a person whose voice is very hard to hear," Mautin said.

Mautin said he took a part of their maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) to buy the materials they need and distribute to his personnel.

"Each of us has it and we find it effective," Mautin said.
