Despite the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Lanao del Norte carries on with the implementation of the Mindanao Sustainable Agrarian and Agriculture Development (MinSAAD) project and the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP).

DAR- Lanao del Norte formally turned-over corn shellers to two (2) agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARB) in the municipality of Salvador, Lanao del Norte province.

The distribution is under the CRFPSP, the Agency's project that implements the provision of farm machinery to improve the productivity and earning capabilities of ARBs.

The project is being implemented in agrarian reform communities and other areas identified as vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

Mohammad Abdul Jabbar Pandapatan, the assistant focal person of DAR-LDN's CRFPSP, said the beneficiaries were selected through the evaluation of their activities and capacity to improve their respective cooperatives.

"We have already observed them for a year now and ok naman sila. Ang requirement lang namin ay makita na ang equipment ay naalagaan nila," he said.

The recipLents of the corn sheller are Pagayawan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Camp 3 Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

Pandapatan said each corn sheller cost Php150,000.

"Dako kaayo mig kalipay sa among barangay tungod sa makatabang ang corn sheller sa mga kabus labi sa mag-uuma og ginagmay nga dili na sila maglisod (sa shelling) tungod kay naana mi equipment sa barangay," said Matthew Batbat of the Camp 3 Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

[We are very happy in our barangay because the corn sheller can help the poor especially the small farmers, corn shelling will become easier for them because we have the equipment in the barangay,]

"Maraming salamat sa DAR dahil ang karamihan sa amin sa barangay namin ay mahihirap at yung sheller ay malaking tulong sa amin," added Masacal Dayungan of the Pagayawan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

[Thank you to DAR because most of us in our barangay are poor and the sheller is a big help to us.]

Earlier this week, DAR-Lanao del Norte also turned over farm machinery and equipment to identified ARBs in the municipalities of Tangcal, Kolambugan, Kapatagan, and Sapad to sustain their agricultural productivity.

ARBs from the municipality of Tubod will also receive CRFPSP equipment on December 1, 2020. (APB/PIA-ICIC)
