The launching was highlighted by distribution of proper segregation facilities to the offices in the unit, and posting of information and education materials.
The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office of Maco also conducted a lecture on proper solid waste management based on Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and Municipal Ordinance No. 5, series of 2010.
Brigade commander, Brigadier General Gilbert Saret emphasized the need to instill and embrace solid waste management program, not only in the camp but also in each soldier’s household.
“Maintaining a clean and green camp is a reflection of our soldier’s individual discipline and aspiration for genuine transformation,” BGen Saret said.
The brigade commander also emphasized that the local government unit of Maco will guide the brigade in the implementation and further enhancing the program.
Meanwhile, Alan Olaguer, municipal environment and natural resources officer of Maco, committed to collect the residual and hazardous wastes of the camp every Wednesday.
Olaguer bared that the local government unit of Maco has already purchased 3.5-hectare lot at Barangay Concepcion for the municipal’s sanitary landfill.
An initial funding of PhP 2 million, he added, is allocated for the development of the landfill.
