Army in Surigao del Sur installs new commander

TAGO, Surigao del Sur, Oct 4 – The Army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion installed new commanding officer during the Change of Command Ceremony yesterday, October 4, 2019, at H36IB, Brgy Dayoan, Tago, this province. 

Ltc Jezreel J Diagmel was installed as the new Battalion Commander of the 36IB replacing Ltc Xerxes A Trinidad. MGen Franco Nemesio M Gacal, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division, steered the Change of Command Ceremony and served as the presiding general officer and keynote speaker.

Ltc Diagmel, is the 29th commanding officer of the 36IB while Ltc Xerxes A Trinidad term as the Commanding Officer for two years of the said battalion has already concluded. The passing of company colors from an outgoing commander to the incoming one signifies that the unit and its soldiers is never without official leadership, a continuation of trust, and also signifies an allegiance of soldiers to their commander. 

Under the leadership of Ltc Xerxes Trinidad, outgoing battalion commander, led the unit in maintaining and sustaining the peace and order situation and makes the national highway safer for the people of Surigao del Sur by continued clearing operation thru the conduct of focused military operation, Community Support program, and other peace and security initiatives that led
to no violent incidents and atrocities on national highways perpetrated by the communist NPA terrorist within the unit area of operation.

Also, Ltc Trinidad participated in the conduct of 14 brigade initiated operations, 33 battalion-initiated operations and one hundred six (106) company initiated operation that led to 32 successful encounters to Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) and resulted to the 4 enemies killed and recovery of 52 firearms, 23 anti- personnel mines and the discovery of 21 CNT hideouts. 4TH INF DIV

He also launched 14 Community Support Programs (CSP) operations and cleared/validated 14 affected brgy from CNT affectations that led to the peace and development in the province were contributory in declaring the NPA and other left leaning organization as Persona Non-Grata in the province and in the two (2) municipalities, twelve (12) barangays and two (2) IP Community
(CADT). With the implementation of the EO 70 in Ending the Local Communist Armed Conflict, the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of Surigao del Sur in close collaboration with the army’s 36IB inaugurated the Ibuan Enterprise Village, the pilot community of the PRLEC and the first in the region for the implementation of EO70.

In his message, Ltc Xerxes Trinidad, Outgoing Commander expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the officers and men of the 36IB for all their support to his dream for the province of Surigao del Sur. He also thanked and recognized the people of Surigao del sur for trusting the 36IB under his leadership that established a dynamic working relationship in the pursuit of security and development that every peace loving Surigaonon was longing for. 

“I tried to communicate for the people to give hope and for them to see the light. This is the time for us to put ourselves to work together as one Filipino as one nation to stop the insurgency here in the province of Surigao del Sur,” Ltc Trinidad said In his message, Ltc Jezreel J Diagmel, the incoming battalion commander, acknowledged the people who took part in his journey especially his mentors in the field for honing him to become an efficient and effective leader.

“The challenge for me is to work hard and to work harder to fill in the shoes on what my predecessor Ltc Trinidad have started. Establish and accomplish in terms of peace and developments initiatives in this area and to sustain the gains for the betterment of life of the people in this part of the region,” Ltc Diagmel said.

“With the operationalization of E070 or the Whole of Nation Approach, this is our challenging task to put our racks together which is vital in the presidents call to end local communist armed conflict. To my fellow workers in the government, private sectors, NGO\, IP, PO let us deliver to the poorest of the poor and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas (GIDAS) with
passion and determination,” Ltc Diagmel further concluded.

In his keynote address, MGen Franco Nemesio M Gacal highlighted the accomplishments of Ltc Trinidad during his stint as battalion commander including the capture of Communist Terrorist Groups high ranking personalities. He also congratulated and warmly welcome the newly installed Battalion Commander Ltc Diagmel.

Further, Mgen Gacal gave his challenge to the newly installed battalion commander as he assumes the post. "I am directing you to clear CNT within your area of operations. I do not want the communists-terrorists to be able to celebrate any anniversary in your AOR. More importantly, never allow them to disturb the peace of the people and conduct atrocities especially along the main supply routes," he said.

He also reminded the Valor troopers to always uphold the Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law and the Rule of Law. Moreover, he was looking forward for the support and cooperation of each valor trooper to Ltc Diagmel and prompted them to continue to work together as a team to contribute broader achievements to the organization and the people of Surigao del Sur.

The said change of command was attended by Col Maurito Licudine, Commander, 402nd Brigade, with the different battalion commanders in Caraga. Also, it was attended by the governor of Surigao del Sur, Hon Alexander Pimentel with the local chief executive of Cantilan town, Hon Carla Pichay together with the different line agencies, NGO, IP leaders, local officials, former rebels, family and friends and the valorian troopers.(1Lt Jonald Romorosa, CMO,36IB) ###
