Xavier Ateneo students rank second in 1st Lockton Philippines Legacy Awards
The XU Philippine Association of Agriculturists Juniors (PAA Juniors) have finished second as the Mindanao entry to the 1st Lockton Philippines Legacy Awards.
Sponsored by Lockton Philippines, the just concluded first half of the 1st Lockton Philippines Legacy Awards is a first of its kind college-based action research contest on environmental risk management where participants pitch solutions on how a particular community in their respective areas of concern can alleviate their pressing environmental concerns.
The young group of Agriculture students from Xavier Ateneo seeks to expand the use of innovation and new methods to the community.
Their action research entitled “Promotion of Sustainable Adoption of Agricultural Technologies (Black Soldier Fly and Self-Circulating Hydroponics) to Students of Balulang Elementary School Cagayan de Oro City” talks about innovated agricultural technologies for food production activities and pollution prevention by creating an action plan to allow the youth to work with young kids and engage in a small scale vegetable production project for a more sustainable future.
The team is composed of Aliyah Cabilin; Kent Anthony Delgado; Vhone Fulgarinas; April Gador; Brix Mexy Palmes; and Jade Tagotongan, with Mr. Floro Dalapag, Adviser.
Five winning teams were selected from 36 participating schools with 48 action research proposals as the pioneering batch of awardees.
The action research is just the first part of this unique contest as the second half consists of a Student Partner Program where a participating company may fund and support the proposals. This is a great opportunity for a business establishment or corporation seeking meaningful CSR activity to adopt one of the student proposals and contribute to an important, long-lasting initiative.
Victorio C Valledor, president and CEO of Lockton Philippines Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers Inc, awarded Xavier Ateneo through Roel R Ravanera, vice-president for social development.
Certificates and cash prizes were award ed to the student-researchers and their moderator during a ceremony held on Wednesday, February 12 at AVR 8, SBM building of Xavier Ateneo.
