1,679 runners join Army's Golden Diamond Run in Cagayan de Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Around 1,679 runners’ enthusiast joined the Golden Diamond Run facilitated by 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, Philippine Army in partnership with the Circle Production as part of the week-long celebration for its 50th founding anniversary.
 
With three categories - three kilometers, five kilometers, and ten kilometers - the run was participated by various government agencies, security sectors, youth, media and other civilian stakeholders in different ages coming from Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions.
 
Aside from promoting a healthy lifestyle,  the proceeds of the run will be used for the procurement of medical equipment, prosthetics and enhancement of hospital facilities in Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH), the only hospital in Northern Mindanao that caters to active and retired soldiers, veterans and their families.
 
Lea D. Ladaran, 23, student of Golden Heritage Polytechnic College, Cagayan de Oro City said, “I joined the 4ID Golden Diamond Run to show my support to our heroes (soldiers) and also my close friends assigned in 4ID. Besides, I love running to maintain my body fit."
 
Meanwhile, MGen Franco Nemesio Gacal, commander of the 4ID said, “Today’s run is different and extra special to our soldiers because 4ID will be celebrating its 50th Founding Anniversary on February 1 and we are honoring the selflessness and heroism of our soldiers over the last five decades.”
 
He also emphasized that the participation of everyone will be a big help in improving the medical services that CESHl provides. 
 
"I would like to thank all of you for showing your support, your care and respect to our soldiers. This will certainly boost the morale of our soldiers knowing that they are not alone in the fight in attaining peace and development in Regions 10 and Caraga,” Gacal added. (4ID, PA/PIA10)
