Suspect behind mayor's ambush killed in shootout

ILIGAN City--Police authorities killed the suspect, who ambushed a town mayor in Lanao del Sur in November last year, on Wednesday morning in Barangay Pagalamatan in Saguiaran town, Lanao del Sur.

Colonel Madzgani Mukaram, chief of Lanao del Sur police, said police was supposed to serve an arrest warrant for Jalaloding Mocsir for the crime of murder when he and his companions fired at the arresting officers.

The warrant was in connection of Mocsir's killing of certain Safra Macabantog Pangandaman on January 31, 2017 in Marawi City.

A 10-minute firefight ensued that led to the death of the target and one Nasrullah Capal, a resident of Barangay Pagalamatan.

Mocsir is a resident of Barangay Moriataobae, Masiu in Lanao del Sur.

Mukaram said, Mocsir, who is also known as Laluwa, is identified to be member of the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group under Osoph Hadji Nasif or Kumander Asrap.

Mocsir is the primary suspect in the ambush of Nasser Pangandaman Jr, Mayor of Masiu town that resulted to the death of his police escort, Staff Sergeant Jabar Pangandaman, the killing of Mojera Macalangan, barangay chairman of Bubong Kadayonan, Marawi City on August 30, 2019 and the failed ambush of Police Captain Basiri Hasan on July 19, last year.

"While the operating unit was about to serve the warrant, Alias Laluwa and his companion identified as Nasrullah Capal fired upon the operating unit hitting the kevlar helmet and ballistic shield of the leadman of the entry team, forcing the operating unit to retaliate," Mukaram said.

Recovered from Mocsir is a Glock caliber 9mm pistol and from Nasrullah was one KG9 caliber 9mm.

Mocsir's wife, identified as Bling Capal, was arrested for possession of eight sachets of suspected shabu.

Aside from violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, Capal is also facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1829 for coddling wanted person.

Mocsir's four inlaws were also arrested for coddling him. Three motorcylcles believed to be used by the slain suspects in their gun for hire activity were also confiscated to be subjected for macro etching examination while the firearms seized to be subjected for ballistic examination.

The five arrested suspects are presently detained at Saguiaran MPS for filing of appropriate crimnal charges.
