OPOL’s only lawyer-legislator, Jay Bago, has been very active in advocating for the passage and eventual implementation of local ordinances in his hometown.
Bago disclosed that as a privileged representative of Opol in the national Inter-Agency Task Force {IATF] against Covid 19, he has pushed for moderated penalties in the local level. He said that he has proposed and eventually acquired approval of lower penalties for Opolanons, considering the economic difficulties everyone is facing in this pandemic.
Bago added that he helped craft ordinances and an executive order for the non-discrimination of frontliners, a localized liquor ban and a curfew and providing penalties for violators thereof. He said that there was no opposition to the then proposals although there were some delays as queries and comments had to be answered and heard.
“Understandably, at the onset of the pandemic, there was confusion and apprehension but after discussions and consultations, I drafted an executive order that Mayor Maximino Seno eventually signed as a local ordinance,” said Bago.
