CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao - The government forces that waged a running gunbattle with the terrorist group, has captured the other day, what used to be a lair of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in the outskirts of Ampatuan town, this province.
Government forces also recovered improvised explosives including bomb-making ingredients in said lair abandoned by the rebels, when they were overrun by the military, during a series of skirmishes in the outskirts of Ampatuan town, particularly Salman village.
“The soldiers discovered an abandoned hideout-cum bomb-making area of the BIFF that has several running trenches and half-size basketball court,” Lt. Col. Raymond Rapi, Army’s 1st Scout Ranger Battalion (1SRB) commander, said Thursday.
Col Rapi said the running gun battle between government forces and Muslim secessionist rebels BIFF affected several towns, including Shariff Saydona, Datu Unsay, Ampatuan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, and Shariff Aguak.
Rapi said combatants of the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion in the province have been pursuing the rebels since March 18th most especially in the interiors of Ampatuan municipality.
On March 24th Wednesday afternoon, government troops also pursued the retreating BIFF rebels which resulted in the recovery of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bomb components, blasting caps, solar panel, power supply inverter, mobile phones, a motorbike, electrical wire, binocular and other personal belongings.
In sitio Bagorot, Barangay Tuayan, the 23rd Company of the 1st Mechanized Battalion also has a running exchange of bullets with the rebels that also resulted in the recovery of more improvised explosives. ### (JCE)
