ILIGAN City--One of the suspects who involved in a shootout on Monday evening at a checkpoint in Libertad, Misamis Oriental was killed in an encounter with operatives, at 6:20 a.m. Friday (February 21) in a joint pursuit operation of Misamis Oriental police forces.
Captain Princess Joy Velarde, information officer of Misamis Oriental Police Office, said the suspect, only known by his alias as Bolaw, was shot by the operating personnel. He is armed with an explosive.
Bolaw was with three other armed men on board a white Mitsubishi Mirage when one of them fired at a police officer who flagged them down in the checkpoint.
The suspect was sighted in the hinterland area of Barangay Poblacion, some kilometers away from the bridge with dried up river where he and his cohorts jumped after firing at the police in the checkpoint.
Velarde said the suspect was knocking on a house to ask for drinking water and slippers.
"The resident identified his face because we have distributed their pictures to residents. He was immediately reported to the police," Velarde said.
The shootout on Monday resulted in the death of a police officer and the driver of the armed men.
Another cop was wounded.
On Tuesday morning, one suspect identified as Richard Perez or Richard Manda, was captured and on Wednesday afternoon, one was arrested.
With the arrest of Bolaw, police is now pursuing only one more suspect of the shooting.
