CAGAYAN de Oro City--A local legislator here hinted that security guards are effective force multipliers of the local police in its fight against criminalities.

Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya said: “IF we have them as force multipliers, we can see how fast and active our policing activities in Cagayan de Oro City. The security guards can amplify reports and incidents that they may have observed in their area of responsibility.”

In his special report during the regular session Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy, Nacaya citing that security guards are effective force multipliers of the police authorities of the city in its fight against criminalities.

The councilor said he also pointed this out to the officers and members of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) during their flag raising ceremony early morning, where he was invited as the guest speaker.

Nacaya recalled that a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed and entered into by the city and COCPO tapping security agencies and security guards.

He suggested that the same be done again to awaken everybody especially the new security guards, who have been vested with the authority to secure certain properties and areas.

“So that they will know that they are part of the organization in the fight against criminalities,” he said.

Likewise mentioned by the councilor was the importance of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to deter robbery and other crimes when installed together with the traffic lights of the city as well as inside and outside the periphery of public markets.

“And may be in the discussion of our budget, we can consider augmenting support and providing funds for the purchase of CCTVs,” the councilor stressed.

The matter was referred to the committee on public order and safety chaired by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo for appropriate action. (SP/JAOclarit)
