CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Five family members, including the father, were confirmed positive for the COVID-19 virus after they underwent “swab testing” following the death of the 34-year-old female COVID-19 positive patient in barangay (village) Carmen here, city health officials said Tuesday.
Dr. Joselito Retuya, the city’s epidemiologist, reported that the family were confined in an undisclosed isolation unit in the city after the 34-year-old female patient, a member of the family died of the COVID-19 virus Sunday last week.
The 67-year-old father, who brought her daughter to the hospital, was found positive for the COVID-19 virus, a week after her daughter died. The wife and mother of the victim was negative.
Aside from the father, the other family members found positive of the virus were the 38-year-old elder daughter and sister of the 34-year-old COVID-19 casualty, 31-year-old daughter and younger sister, 25-year-old brother of the COVID-19 victim, and the 18-year-old son of the COVID-19 fatality.
With the latest case, Cagayan De Oro City has now a total of 19 confirmed COVID-19 positive cases, seven were undergoing treatment, six recovered and six deaths since March 2020.
The regional Department of Health (DOH), however, has already tallied a total of 54 confirmed cases in the Northern Mindanao, including the latest six cases, 18 recovered and nine deaths as of Tuesday.
In a bulletin issued Tuesday, the DOH showed that the curve trend of COVID-19 cases in Northern Mindanao has flattened starting June 10, 2020 until June 15, 2020.
On Monday night, the National Inter-Agency Task Force in the Mitigation of Infectious Diseases has placed Cagayan De Oro City and Misamis Oriental under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) beginning June 16, 2020 until June 30, 2020. -0-
