KIDAPAWAN CITY (MDN Mindanao News, July 11) - A Brigada News FM radio station manager in Kidapawan City was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assassins on Wednesday along National Highway, Quezon Boulevard corner Diversion Road Sinsuat St, Kidapawan City, police authorities reported.
Eduard Dizon, manager of Brigada News FM-Kidapawan was shot while driving his own vehicle, a Mitsubishi Mirage G4, at around 10:25 evening.
Initial investigation conducted by police investigators revealed that prior to the shooting, another station manager of the sister company Brigada News FM station was also hit by a bagful of human waste in Cotabato City.
The SOCO team (Scene of the Crime Operatives) who immediately responded to the crime scene have recovered empty shells of .45 caliber pistol just beside the vehicle of the victim.
Police are now tracking down the whereabouts of the attackers to solve the case and give justice to the victim.
Dizon, according to investigation, was a former Councilor of Makilala town. He was making a right turn when suddenly, two armed men alighted from the scene and without provocation peppered him with bullets.
Cotabato provincial police director Col. Maximo Layugan said police operatives are now in pursuit operations against the killers to arrest them and bring them to the court of justice.
Aside from his managerial functions, Dizon also anchored a radio program in Brigada Nes FM.
“We are saddened by the death of Dizon. We condemn such kind of killing,” the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines – Kidapawan echoed their sentiments on the sudden death of a radio manager/broadcaster.
Last year, unidentified hitmen shot dead Gabriel Alburo, 50, and also a radio announcer in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
Based on records, since 1992, there were a total of 80 mediamen and journalists killed in the country, and 66 of them were murdered with impunity, based on the latest data of a New York based Committee to Protect Journalists.
In Cotabato City this month, a bag full of human waste was thrown at Brigada News FM-Cotabato station manager Florante Formento at around 9 in the morning on July 9, this year.
Under the Duterte adminsitration, Dizon was the 13th journalists killed for still unknown reasons. The police are still facing a blank wall as to the main motive of slaying.
