Pastor, 2 sons killed in another violent church attack in Burkina Faso

MDN DIGITAL, April 29 - Armed attackers on board on seven motorbikes attacked a protestant church in Burkina Faso Sunday, killing a senior pastor, his 2 sons and 3 other worshippers, police authorities reported. Burkina Faso is one of the countries in West Africa besiege by violence and unrest. The country is surrounded by 5 other countries such as Mali, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Ivory Coast. Police authorities said this is the first attack on a church in Burkina Faso since sectarian violence erupted in the country few years back. At least 7 armed attackers on board on motorbikes opened fire in the air and then pointed their guns to the worshippers who started going out from the church after a religious service Sunday. Identities of those who have died are still unknown at press time and police authorities are still facing a blank who these attackers were. But some sources said Jihadists carried out the attacks on Sunday in a small town of Silgadji, which is near Djibo, known to be the capital Soum province. The country, which is beset by radical extremism and sectarian violence, has been beset by the reported rise of attacks with some groups reportdly coming from border country Mali entered into the country. Population in Burkina Faso are composed of 60 percent muslims, 25 percent were Christians and the rest are indigenous religions. A number of groups were suspected of taking part of the Sunday attacks and these gropus were the Ansarul Islam, Group to Support Islam and Muslims (GSIM), including those with links to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS).

3 die in Honolulu helicopter crash

MDN DIGITAL, April 29 - At least three passengers were confirmed dead when a helicopter crashed Monday in a suburban community in Kailua, Oahu Island in Hawaii, police authorities reported. Identities of those who died during the crash were not available at press time. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. Fire and debris, reports said, were raining in the sky during the tragic incident Kailua resident Melissa Solomon told reporters she was driving when she saw flames and helicopter in the sky shockingly plummeted in front of her. “All you could see was fire, she narrated. Shayne Enright, from Honolulu emergency department said her team were responding on another incident in the nearby area when they received an emergency call of the horrific helicopter crash in Kailua community. She said when her team arrived in the scene, people were screaming and they tried to stop the flames on the helicopter that crashed inside the Kailua community. Minutes later firefighters arrived and stopped the fire from spreading further to the whole body of the helicopter.  photo credit to KITV

Sri Lanka bombing updates:Bomber safehouses raided; 15 dead

  At least 15 suspected militants were killed when they blew themselves up inside their safehouse after government troops in Sri Lanka conducted a follow up raid. The raid took place in Sainthamaruthu, a place which is very near to the hometown of the suspected bombing mastermind who led the attacks on hotels and churches on Easter Sunday that killed more than 250 churchgoers and hotel guests. The police said, armed militants opened fire when government soldiers attempted to raid a house of suspected bombers. Then they set of explosives which resulted to the deaths of three women and children. The police have also identified one civilian who was reportedly caught in the crossfire. Television footages have shown charred bodies, a drone, explosives, a rifle, a generator and batteries inside the house.  During a separate raid, government troopers recovered 150 sticks of gelignite explosive, a drone camera, IS flags, thousands of steel pellets. Based on accounts made by local media outlets, there were already more than 70 arrests carried out by police authorities and those detained persons suspected of taking part in the Easter Sunday bombings now reached over a hundred. Sri Lankan president Sirisena told members of the media that they have the arrests of 130 suspects linked to IS and still hunting for 70 more suspects who were in the country to carry out bombings.  Who were the bombers on Easter Sunday? Credit to the video owners Sri Lankan president Sirisena has confirmed that the alleged ring leader who carried out the attacks on hotels and churches was a certain Zahran Hashim, who also died during the bombing of Shangri-La hotel in Colombo. At least 9 people were suspected of carrying out the attacks based on intel reports. Intelligence reports and investigations have it that two of the alleged bombers are said to be sons of a wealthy spice trader in the country identified as Mohammad Yusuf Ibrahim. He was one of Sri Lanka's richest men. The government invited him for questioning and also detained him after the attacks. One of Ibrahim's sons was allegedly the suspect who bombed Shangri-La hotel accompanied by ring leader. His other son also carried out the bombing of a high end Cinnamon Grand hotel, which is only a walking distance. Ibrahim's daughter in law reportedly detonated the bomb that blew them up during a government raid at the family's villa reportedly to avoid arresting police officers who conducted the raid. Some police officers, women and children were killed in the blast.

Hate-filled gunman opens fire inside Synagogue; Rabbi wounded

(MDN digital, April 28) - A hate-filled gunman opened fire Saturday inside a synagogue in Poway, Chabad California, killing one and wounding 3 others including the rabbi who was hit by the bullet in his hand while he was about to preach the message of the Passover freedom holiday. Police authorities identified those who died as Lori Kaye, while those injured were Rabbi Yisrael Goldstein, Almog Peretz, a 34-year-old man from Israel who was only visiting the place; and a still unidentified 8-year-old girl.  The lone fatality Lori Kaye was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital after the shooting but she died later. Kaye was only visiting the church to say a little prayer for her mother when she met her untimely death from a hate-filled gunman who positioned himself in front of the church entrance when he started firing. Investigation disclosed that Kaye protected the Rabbi by jumping in between the rabbi and the gunman, thus she was caught by the bullet supposedly for the Rabbi. The shooting incident took place inside a synagogue during the Passover celebration, considered among the holiest Jewish celebrations in history.   One of the injured victims Almog Peretz told reporters he is now slowly improving after he was hit by a shrapnel during the blast. He said he saw the shooter standing near the entrance door of the synagogue.  Peretz told CNN "He didn't yell anything specifically at (me)," he said. "He was across the way. He was shooting at me from across the room. I saw him staring at me."

1 dead, 7 injured in Baltimore indiscriminate firing

BALTIMORE (MDN digital , April 28) - Indiscriminate firing of a lone gunman on Sunday night in Baltimore resulted to the death of one person and injuring seven others. The gunman approached two cookouts and started firing at the crowd along the corners of Edmondson and Whitmore, and pointing his gun at several men and women. Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said that based on initial investigation one of the victims ran towards the Perkins Square Baptist Church, Unfortunately he already sustained gunshot wound and died later. Six other wounded persons were rushed to nearby hospitals but they have non-life threatening injuries. Police are still 'facing a blank wall' as to the motive of the gunman. But investigators clarified that while the shooting incidents were near the two churches - Doswell Cathedral and Perkins Square - it did not have any relation at all. Acting Mayor Bernard "Jack" Young challenged the residents to report any information that will lead to the immediate arrest of the suspect, or the motive of indescriminately firing innocent civilians.

6.1 magnitude earthquake also jolts India

Cagayan de Oro (MDN Digital, April 24) - After two strong tremors jolted Philippines, this time a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 in the richter scale, has also trembled northeastern state of Arunachal Predesh in India early Wednesday.   According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was found about 25 miles southeast of Along. It reportedly struck around 1:45 am.   Arunachal, Pradesh is home to 1.2 million people, based on the website owned by the government but it is considered less densely populated place in the country. The tremor was felt in Tiber, according to a China based news agency Xinhua. Beijing and New Delhi. Beijing and New Delhi have been disputing which of them has the right dispute claims over the land China is claiming about 90,000 square kilometers of the total territory, while India want Arunachal Pradesh. Myanmar and Bhutan also borders over Arunachal Pradesh
